Ten artists (Leonor Antunes, Claire Barclay, Sara Barker, Inês Botelho, Hugo Canoilas, Alice Channer, Rochelle Fry, George Henry Longly, André Sousa and Charlotte Thrane) were invited to make new work for the specific context of the publication and were asked to treat the flat page as if it were three-dimensional space. The artists created a series of site-specific works rather than documentation of existing work and each went beyond the basic invitation of the commission to explore the notion of flatness itself. FLATWORK will be an annual publication showcasing artists from different countries around Europe. This inaugural issue focuses on the work of Portugal and UK based artists.
